P-51 Mustang
"Glamorous Glenn" w/Tanks Span: 17 3/4" Length: 15 1/2" The P-51 Mustang is considered to be the greatest American fighter of its era. Even more amazing is that it took just 102 days from conception through design and to completion of the prototype. Fitted with a Rolls Royce Merlin engine and a four-bladed propeller, the Mustang was able to fly in excess of 400 mph. Retired Brigadier General Chuck Yeager became an ace in Europe flying a P-51 with a total of 11 career victories. |

B-25 Mitchell

P-38 Lightning -
Bong's "Marge" Span: 19 1/2" Length: 14 1/4" Flying the P-38 Lightning pictured, Major Richard Bong became America's "Ace of Aces". After he broke Rickenbacker's WWI record of 26 victories, he ran his score up to 40. At the end of 1944, Bong was transferred to the States to test the P-80 that was under development at Lockheed. During a take-off, the plane flamed out, and Bong was killed. Among his many decorations was the Medal of Honor. |

F4U-4 Corsair, Marines
VMF 214 "Blacksheep" Span: 17 1/2" Length: 14 1/4" The Corsair remained in continuous production from 1941 to 1952, numbering more than 12,000. The inverted gull wings were designed. in part, to extend the length of landing gear needed to create the clearance for the 13'4" prop. The F4U destroyed 2,140 enemy aircraft in air-to-air combat, and many more on the ground. Many think this was the best piston engined fighter ever built. |

B-17F Flying Fortress
"Memphis Belle" Span: 20" Length: 14 1/4" The "Memphis Belle" of the 324th BS assumed its place in history in May, 1943 as the first B-17 Flying Fortress to have completed 25 missions. Both the plane and crew returned to the States for a grand tour to promote the War Effort and the sale of War Bonds. The plane's name became title of a Hollywood movie that may still be viewed by those insomniacs with access to obscure TV channels. |

TBM Avenger
George Bush Span: 19" Length: 14" The TBM Avenger was a nearly indestructible aircraft that fought in the battles of Midway, Coral Sea and many more. It became the standard torpedo bomber for the Navy throughout the entire War, plus another 15 years. It could carry one large torpedo or 2,000 lbs. of bombs and had a range of 1,100 miles. Pictured is the model flown by President George Bush in which he was shot down. |

Spitfire Mk V
Douglas Bader Span: 17 3/4" Length: 18 3/4" When the Spitfire became operational in 1938, there was nothing to match them for sheer grace of line. P-47 Thunderbolt
"Gabby" Gabreski Span: 17 3/4" Length: 18 3/4" In February of 1943 "Gabby" Gabreski transferred to the 8th Air Force. On August 24, 1943 he got his first victory (a Focke-Wulf 190) over France. Flying the P-47 Thunderbolt or "Jug", Gabreski scored victory after victory. He was officially credited with 28 confirmed aerial victories, and scores of aircraft, tanks, and other vehicles destroyed by Gabreski during ground attack missions. |

A-20 Havoc Span: 17 3/4" Length: 18 3/4" The A-20 Havoc was originally built for the French and British as a night fighter before America entered the war. In addition, the USSR received over 3,000 of these aircraft through Lend-Lease. Havocs were used in Europe and the Pacific for light bomber missions. Havocs were very effective in low altitude attack roles. The "G" model had the solid nose, and the "A" had the glass nose. |

OV-10 Bronco Span: 17 3/4" Length: 18 3/4" The Bronco was developed with much fanfare as a counter insurgency warplane. The OV-10 is a light and nimble aircraft that can fly close support. FAC and light attack missions were also common duties for the Bronco. The rear seat observer sat directly between the spinning props. |
